CRD – Creative Challenges

Creative Challenges

As joint Audio Producer, my role was largely concerned with audio production, though I did manage the bands social networking as well as filming the band live at 5 Degrees Below. Different interpretations of the brief by various group members caused disagreement on various elements. Academic and Commercial, Narrative and Non Linear. Working with the band to hone, their image and sound. This was important if we were going to make them a viable preposition with a potential single.

Realising the importance of consistent communication  to produce a coherent video with unity of sound and image I took great interest in the video production. One of the challenges we faced as a group was what format the video should take, our music video theory lectures had split the group over the narrative approach and the fully experimental more abstract one. This is where diplomacy really came into play, the group had to find a way of resolving the issue and compromising without losing passion and drive for the project, the two main concerns were academic and commercial viability/interests of the band that we had to protect. In the end it was decided that the music and video elements should separate. This move can clearly be seen as detrimental to the projects outcome, as in this form sound and vision should be worked on closely together.

The First Meeting With The Heathenz Minus Perin. The group formed a creative bond.

During the project we faced various challenges, the first was the understanding the bands need and how these met with the groups needs. In discussions with the band they mentioned a video had been made for them in the past, which was below standard and didn’t echo their image. My role meant that I had to take these views and translate them into the finished audio as well as communicating this message to the visual team. Unfortunately largely due to creative differences the eventual message has become muddled.
